I said I’d share a few marketing secrets with you as we created and released and sold and marketed – continue to market – our scary anthology. Here’s the next installment.
Okay so why is being #1 in Hot New Releases for horror anthologies a big deal?
Well it’s kind of like asking somebody, “How did you win the Olympics?”
When somebody wins the Olympics we like to think of them as being the best ever.

Take the 100 yard dash. On a certain day the person who wins that race is declared best in the world
And they are. For that event. On that day.
The next day they might get beaten.
The day before they might get beaten.
But on THAT day, they were number 1.
Now, let’s back up. They didn’t just roll out of bed one day and decide to go win the Olympics that afternoon, after never having done any exercise or running ever in their life!
No, they probably started at a YMCA, or running in their neighborhood, and then they won some little county fair event, and then won a state event, and then won a regional event, and then started competing nationally… Round after round after round, they competed. Sometimes they won, sometimes they didn’t –
but they kept doing what it took to improve.
Sound familiar? They were climbing the mountain one step at a time.
And today you just won your little local county event.
And others may scoff, but I will tell you this: winning your local county event is better than NOT winning your local county event.
And there are lots of people who don’t even do that. (They’ll be scoffing; ignore them, Little Red Hen.)
This is not the last step of the journey;
it is one step of many that will follow.
RIGHT NOW you can tout being #1 on Amazon in this little category, as we market our way to trying to be number one in bigger categories and ultimately number one overall on Amazon.
But you don’t just roll out of bed and end up #1 on Amazon
By all means, congratulations!

Love the analogy! Step by persistent step to climb the mountain! We’re up and stepping!
