No, too elitist.
People read books for many reasons, to look upon them as beings who must be changed smacks of arrogance.
I’d even go so far as to say this is ‘posturing’
(I’m in the wrong mood at the present to be conciliatory)

Well, I think it depends on what kind of writer you are and who you are writing for, I guess? Especially when you are an inspirational or spiritual writer, or some top business authors as well.
But then, there are certain fantasy writers did influenced and changed their fans lives – such as Dan Brown, George Martin, JK Rwoling, Tolkien, etc …

I disagree. I think you can indulge your audience even as you’re trying to change their minds. And audience is definitely not your adversary.
