What is your most favorite place on Earth? Did you put it in a story? Why or why not?

I’ve had a few favorite places. But they’re not where you’d expect. And I have written about them.

My favourite place on earth is the island where I come from. Rousay, Orkney. Yes it is in a novel, my Suleskerry series.

Writing non-Earth fantasy means I don’t get to add real world stuff. Though I have started a post-apocalyptic thing and I’m toying with a paranormal thriller. I’ve noticed that zoos show up a lot and I do enjoy going to them. So I think that’s my subconscious favorite place.

The northern moors are my favourite places… and they were what started me writing in the first place, trying to preserve some of their lore through fiction.

I haven’t written about my favourite place, but I have about my favourite people.

My favorite place on earth is New Orleans…I’ve written (still writing) a novel set there.

Hmm. I think I made a post about a few favorite places…but it’s more about what I FELT at that place than the place itself….

I don’t know if I’ve discovered my favorite place yet. There’s still so much in this world I’d like to see. But I do love my rivers and lakes, so in a way I’ve written about them.

Some of my favorite places are all over the world – my main characters from my debut novel end up in Germany, one of the places I’ve lived and loved for a few years. But I do tend to write a lot about Texas, and there’s no denying I love Texas to smithereens. So, I guess so. ๐

I tend to write fantasy and sci-fi (when I’m writing fiction) and because of that, the places I visit are hard to incorporate. In my non-fiction work, I rarely mention place (now that I think about it, I don’t think I really go into that much detail in my fiction either), so I guess my answer would be no.
