Mostly, but a really good film or television series can be a shared experience that you can’t have with a book.

I think this is right, except for The Shining. No-one could improve on Jack Nicholson.

Hmm. It’s impossible to do after the fact, that’s for sure. But at the time the list of people they were considering is mind-boggling. You just can’t even imagine some of those people in that role now.

I agree, but then I think of Peter Jackson and the fantastic job he did on Lord Of The Rings. Okay in general I agree.

Absolutely agree. The imagination of the reader far surpasses anything a director can put on film; that is of course if the book is written well.

I totally believe in the power of the reader’s imagination. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t tell everyone ( just a few people) which actors/actresses inspire my characters.

I usually start out with a certain type of person in mind but I’ve never actually thought of writing the role for a specific actor or actress. I know a lot of other people do. It’s an interesting concept!
