When I first read this one a few years ago, it blew my mind.
Not that it’s such a stunning revelation of word play, but if you embrace the concept and try to deliver that for a reader, to write an entire story and constantly show them that nothing is what it seems – if you write it well – it would blow their minds.
And I considered it and I thought, I wonder if I can do that?
And then I wrote The Navigators and I kept trying to do that, and it was just amazing. So then I looked at the quote again and I was like, wow, yeah; that’s really what readers love.
Sometimes things are what they seem, but the plot is about making you think they are not.
