“I happened to see Perry Elisabeth post this cover online as a spec, and bought it immediately. My 4 year old daughter was in the room and I knew she would like it, so I grabbed my video camera and asked her what she thought the picture looked like. She told me it looked like a mermaid who was lonely and sad because she didn’t have any friends.
“With some prodding, my daughter came up with a whole story that I recorded and then wrote down. Like all kids her age, she makes up pretty good stories, and it occurred to me that kids her age might like to hear a story created by another kid their own age, instead of just what we adults think would be interesting for them. I thought it would be fun to write my daughter’s stories down and publish them.
“Laguna The Lonely Mermaid” is just one of many stories my daughter has started telling me. Maybe I can catch a few more of them for you.”
SUMMARY of the book
Laguna The Lonely Mermaid sees a ship come into her home of Pearltide, and she is excited to meet some new friends, but there was nobody on board. She was sad until a little dolphin explained that his family had saved the passengers after they were all swept overseas in a storm. They are marooned on an island with no food or water. Laguna works hard to get them to safety and she is rewarded with a surprise!
