We all need input.

Get yours from a bestselling author.

My Private Critique Group is a way for me to work one-on-one with writers and give them critiques just like the ones I do for my bestselling author friends.

(If you entered one of my Word Weaver Writing Contests, you got a sample of the process.)

  • I have 20+ published titles and have been translated into 12 different languages. My writing is enjoyed in over 100 countries around the world.

  • I have critiqued hundred of stories by new authors and been a critique partner to authors of all skill levels and genres, including a New York Times bestselling author.

I’ve made a lot of friends along the way, too, who come back and work with me time and time again.

“I won’t publish or query anything unless Dan looks at it first.

His keen eye for effective story elements is invaluable.”

Allison Maruska, author of the runaway bestseller The Fourth Descendant, which has received 600+ reviews and sold more than 20,000 copies in its first year.

In my Private Critique Group, I will guide you towards achieving the dream of publishing your story.

You can submit approximately 3000 words, twice a month, for me to critique. Additionally, we can have one-on-one Messenger conversations or YouTube Live video chats as needed. We will discuss your plans for the story, plus keep you focused and motivated to achieve your goals.

“Dan has great ideas and a real talent for making written work stronger.

His critiques come with his sense of humor, no stress, and a super supportive attitude. I love working with him and always look forward to his suggestions. I wish he was my private editor, available 24/7.”

– Amazon bestselling author Jenifer Ruff, whose novel Only Wrong Once has received 150+ reviews within seven months of its release.

The big difference between my private group and other critique groups is you are working one on one with a best-selling author and you don’t have to worry about trolls, bad information or negative people. I have 20+ published titles in eBook, audio book and paperback. I’ve been translated into twelve different languages. My writing is enjoyed in more than 100 countries around the world.

I can help you achieve your writing dream because I’ve been where you are.

1. The “Free” Online Critique Group Saga

I’ve joined “free” online critique groups. Most require you to spend lots of time reading other people’s stories before you can ever get feedback on your own, and then it takes even more time and effort to sift through piles of bad information and negative comments to find one or two people who know what they’re talking about – and almost none of them will see your story through to its end, or do it in a timely manner.

The free online groups can take years.

Do you wanna wait that long?

“Dan Alatorre’s input has become an incredibly valuable part of my writing process.

He’s the first person I ask to check my work. He reads each story carefully, identifying technical writing errors and offering suggestions to improve the story’s pace, structure, dialogue, and characterization.

Dan is a natural mentor.”

– bestselling author J. A. Allen, Old Souls, The Box Under The Bed

2. The Writing Group Saga

Simply put: a chapter a month? And you have to read ten other people’s stuff and give them feedback on it? Who has that kind of time?

In my group, you basically send a chapter every two weeks. I critique it in writing and send it back. You implement what you’re learning into your next chapter.

“Dan has a way of lifting you up

but also keeps it real by helping you with annoying writer habits and major structural changes.

When I won the Dan Alatorre Word Weaver Contest last July, I had no clue what it took to get a book published. Now, thanks to Dan, I have an author’s Facebook page, a blog, and a Twitter account. The step-by-step guidance he gave me provided the path I needed as a first time published author. His critiques of Ruby Slips and Poker Chips and now The Weaver have been invaluable.”

Heather Kindt, author of  Ruby Slips and Poker Chips

Simple. Consistent. Effective.

If you need to go faster than one chapter a week, we have a Premium Program for that. I’ve completed whole books for bestselling authors in ten days

because unlike people in free online groups, writing and working with other writers is my only job.

I encourage writers of all genres to seize the opportunity and join Dan’s private critique group!

Dan’s critique approach has been a great match for my writing style. He’s honest about what he likes and points out, with constructive criticism, what doesn’t work. For my current WIP, Dan noticed that the balance between dialogue and description was off. Not just the old “show don’t tell” that we authors hear so often…he figured out that this story had too much dialogue. So true…and I would never have recognized that on my own.

Very often, Dan adds his unique brand of humor to his comments and has left me rolling on the floor laughing…several times.

Blending fun with storytelling passion…Bravo, Dan!

– Anne Marie Andrus, author of Monsters & Angels

Most writers find the amount they spend working with me is more than saved when they go to editing because a smoother manuscript costs less to edit.

Members of my exclusive group also enjoy collaborating with me, as well as access to my vast network of contacts, such as:

  • quality cover designers,

  • trustworthy editors,

  • formatting for your paperback,

  • guidance in creating audio books,

  • marketing help, etc.,

plus my connections with people in the traditional publishing industry.

Once you start submitting your story chapters to my Private Critique Group, your writing world changes. You are no longer going it alone, guessing at what to do. You’re not hoping the friend you made at a writer’s conference doesn’t steer you wrong. You aren’t wasting time reading article after article until you are overwhelmed and wishing some of it would work.

You have a coach to keep you focused.

Together we will hone your story to where you want it to go: creating a fast-paced page turner, or a sultry romance, or a nail-biting horror story – whatever your goal is. Your dream is no longer a vague idea, it becomes within your grasp.

“This has been the most amazing experience.

I really enjoyed and appreciated the critique for both of my submittals.  I like your style.  You call it like it is and give helpful examples and insights… It was particularly helpful when you noted your thoughts as you read our entries… you let me know if I had accomplished that or if I needed improvement.  Priceless.

– author Laura Holian
