Today, the conclusion to what I started yesterday.
Most of you write good stuff. I’ve learned that through my contests.
For those of you who don’t write good stuff, you need:
1. somebody to tell you that and
2. someone to show you how to improve.
Critique groups are good for that. Mine or otherwise, you’ll get the information you need and you’ll make the improvements.
For the very few of you who don’t write well AND can’t learn to improve after getting honest criticism from a critique group…
you guys are doomed
– but only until you open your eyes.
You decide how long that is. That could be a week or a month or your whole life. Try to keep it as short as possible. I did.
Don’t expect to hit the ball out of the park the first time. It happens, but it’s rare
You have more than one story in you. Get the first one into the world and start the second one. Remember, statistically that first book isn’t going to be a #1 bestseller, but the second of third one might be. Well, they can’t if you don’t write them.
Most of you are better writers than you think.
If I could give you one thing, it would be enough confidence to believe #1
