There might be many differences between writers and athletes, or there might be very few, but one is for certain.

How they engage.

If a blogger puts up a list of Top 10 items, writers tend to read it and move on.

Some will agree with the list, some will disagree, but for the most part they will keep their thoughts to themselves –  and even if the list has something on it that is particularly egregious, the typical writer will think of a reply, possibly even type up the reply, mull it over for a while… and then not post it.

Athletes tend to get into it right away.

I was watching NFL Films Top 10 Super Bowl moments, and some of them I didn’t even know had ever happened, but if you were to post that list on any sports forum, you would have 10,000 comments arguing that John Elway’s helicopter spin move never should have made the list, but Sebastian Janikowski’s field goal kick should.

Or vice versa.

Or any or anyone of 10,000 other possibilities, dating back to the early 1900s when football started. Hell, they might even even argue about that!

And they will post. They will threaten each other with bodily harm for disagreeing, and they will carry the grudge match long into the night and into the next day, the next week, the next month… and if God forbid anybody posts again 10 years from now and wakes up that message, they will fight about it some more.

I don’t know where I was going with this honestly but it was pretty amusing to see it unfold.

I think for the most part writers are the more stable bunch. Keep up the good work gang!
