I believe that he had to have been smoking something most remarkable to make such a statement… However, what I got from this was, to write for one’s self pleasure and not to allow our writing to become weak trying to spread itself thin.

I think in general the quote has merit. Specifically, I wouldn’t say a writer should try to “please” one person. I would say that a writer writes with one person in mind. It’s an opportunity to tell that one person what you wish you might have said or share with them how it could have been. It’s catering your children’s book to something your own child would enjoy or learn from. And if one person benefits from it, then likely there are others who can relate to it as well.

Yep. That’s pretty much my take on it. Writing to please everyone ends up pleasing no one.

I think it depends on the genre of what you write. When you write for children I think you aim to please the majority to an extent.

I write to please myself, but also to make my characters happy. Sorcha would say that opening a window can set a soul free. ⚜️

I’m sure it does in the right cases! I definitely right for me, but I definitely also write for a certain “person.”

I always think about that ONE person as a pebble that I drop into a still pond. It doesn’t just touch one part of the pond but ripples out from that spot. So yes, write to one person in a personal way.

I don’t write to please any one. The reason I started my blog was just to share feeling. My all the articles are different from one another and when I started to write I hardly knew any one of those people but woth the help of this writing I came to know many good people in my life,now they are besties for me, came to read many quality stuff,different type of poem,stories etc. Its a different window for me on this globe where the people exist are virtual but still understand,corrects me,helps me.
I do write what I like,what I feel.

I have to admit, it’s very satisfying when that happens. For the most part, I do a lot of posts on my blog that are helpful, but many are also just me being me. And when that connects with somebody in Spain or France or Guam or Argentina or wherever, or little countries I’ve never even heard of, and they write to me and say how much they enjoy it or whatever, it’s just amazing how little typing things I do on a keyboard can impact somebody’s day across the world. It’s definitely one of the best things about blogging.
