What Do YOU Think?

Don’t forget: BIG announcement tomorrow!!

Be sure to check back!

(Are you excited to see what it is? I am.)

I’m interested in getting your thoughts about stuff I see and hear, quotes I read, stuff that passes as knowledge – and starting an authorey conversation.

It really is, isn’t it?

Putting your stuff out there for people to possibly laugh at or ridicule…that’s big.

Faith is an understatement, but it’s a pretty good word, and it means you’re brave for doing this stuff. Remember that.

What are YOUR thoughts on this idea?

GRRRRR – I hate waiting, you big tease. Even more than waiting, I hate trying to make sure I remember to come back to read about the big surprise. HOW will I ever get to sleep now?

The nice thing is, your characters are there every time you open the book.

Everybody is really really tentative before they hit that “publish” button. At least, the first time.

After that, it gets more and more exciting, and less and less stressful.

Either way, your life is forever changed once you press it!

I didn’t read that as meaning brave for putting your stuff out their or as a reflection of anything to do with sharing what you create. I read it that, art comes from somewhere you can’t see. You close your eyes and run with your heart in your hands and your soul on a plate. Creating anything is a leap over a chasm, if you decide to share it, that’s something entirely different.

I knew from an early age I wanted to be a writer but it wasn’t until I retired that I was able to realize that dream. But it is very hard to put yourself out there, knowing everyone isn’t going to like what you are so proud of. You must have a thick skin, never take bad reviews personally and listen to your critique partner!

I think your story is fairly common. People don’t pursue what they really want to do in life until later in the game.

But there’s no doubt, most writers I know are very hesitant to let someone else see their work at first.

After you do that a few times and discover the world doesn’t end, everything changes.

Until you do, it changes in a different way. It’s more claustrophobic and fearful.

Mmmm, pizza, beer….oh, sorry, Dan was lost in a world of taste sensations. I didn’t get the quote until I realized that letting go your creations was an act of faith and I guess it is. But, everything has a finish and after that a life of it’s own, so it’s not fair of us, as creators, to keep our newly created work to ourselves. So letting go is the best thing we can do for that creation.

Being a writer is like being the president. Not everyone is going to like what you have to say. All press is good press. Be controversial, get people going. Good writing evokes emotion. Be brave. Just do it,

Wow. President.

I agree about not everyone is gonna like what you say. Not everyone who likes your story will like every part of it – but what book or movie do I love every single like every scene of? None.

My writing is different….It’s more therapeutic, so I need to have faith in the process a little more often. It’s amazing how often I sit down to write about one thing that wends its way into something I really needed to examine.
