We did it! 2,000 Followers!!

That was fast!

2000 subscribers

Shot right past it, in fact.

Woo hoo!

I should be happy. It wasn’t that long ago – about a year – when we were closing it on 1000. Now, just 13 months later, we’ve passed 2000.

It took more than three years to get that first thousand (we call that the dark times), and a little more than one year to get the next thousand. I’m sure it will take even less time to get the next next thousand (3000).

But as you might guess, I’m a little unsatisfied…

For example, it seems last year like we had a lot more interaction on the site, and this year you guys are mostly missing.

What happened?

Where’d you go?

What did I do wrong???

I’m sure my six week daily series in January and February about editing was a major turnoff for a lot of you but it helped a lot of people, too. Like me.

I have more followers but less interaction.

Hmm…
Well, let’s look at what I’m doing different this year than last year.

Last year we had writing challenges. I thought it would be fun to start doing those again. So I will.

Last year we had little quotes by famous authors and other writer types for people to give a short opinion on. I should probably go back to doing that. Those were fun.

But I’d like to ask you this question, too.

  • How can I help?

  • What things would you like to see covered in this blog?

Each of you, I’m sure, would like some free promotion for your website or your books. Contact me and let’s get that done! I have plenty of time to help other authors and writers take the next step.

We are going to launch three books this year and I’m going to need your help promoting them. I’m going to need interviews done on me and I’m going to need friends as beta readers and on and on.

You, of course, should be writing! But if you’re only writing and not promoting/marketing, you’re only doing half the job.

I know. It sucks just saying that.

So let’s celebrate 2000. Anybody who made or makes a comment this month – March – will be entered to win a free paper back of my new novel when it comes out.

Let me hear from you!

What can we do to make this blog the best it can be for YOU?

Congratulations on all your followers! I’m actually just returning to the blogosphere from a really long hiatus, so that’s why I haven’t been commenting. You should see more of me now.

Do you comment on other bloggers’ posts? That’s what helps me get comments on mine. Good luck!

When I first started out as a blogger, I would find other blogs that I was interested in and I would come in just about every time they posted something. That seemed less and less necessary although I still have a handful of favorites I comment on every time they post, but we seem to reach a critical mass last year around June or July where I was getting lots and lots of comments. Since then, my following has increased and the comments of decreased. So I’m just trying to figure out what changed.

But you are correct, talking on their blogs will usually end up in reciprocation!

I love your blog 🙂

I check in whenever I get a chance. Your instructional posts are my favorite, but I also really like the ones where you tell personal stories. Like the one where you wrote about chasing that guy down who honked at you while you were jogging on your own street.

That was one that stuck with me for a while 😉
