Flash Fiction Challenge: The Plot Thickens

head shot
your humble host

Today’s Flash Fiction Challenge involves a degree of creativity we haven’t asked for in the past.

See, I was sitting in car line the other day, swearing at my decision to go by UPS first to send a jar of my famous pizza sauce to a friend (yes, it was Allison) and as I waited for what seemed an eternity because I wasn’t early, I decided we need better plots in our stories.

Okay, that’s only half true. I was late and I wanted a scapegoat. Moving on…

It occurred to me that better plots, along with better characters, create better stories. Well, we’ll deal with characters next week, but THIS week we are dealing with plot.

Because I said so and it’s my blog.

Here’s the deal.

You get a plot from the list below and write up to 1000 words, post your entry below or the link to it on my blog, and with a few other rules, we’ll have us a good bit of fun.

Oh, but the random number generator will be selecting your plot for you.

The Navigators, $2.99 or FREE on Kindle Unlimited!

Plot List

  1. The Incredible Slippers
  2. The Jolly Doll
  3. The Last Onion
  4. The Missing Gun
  5. The Mysterious Cemetery
  6. The Enchanted Stool
  7. The Deadly Rose
  8. The Perfect Apartment
  9. The Deadly Diamonds
  10. The Endangered Painting
  11. The Flying Pianist
  12. The Psychedelic Wine
  13. The Happy Coffin

You can write something serious, funny, sad, romantic – that’s up to you. No cat stories or westerns, please. Don’t ask.

The best entry (as determined by most likes or by me or possible by a random number generator just for the symmetry of it all) will be invited to enjoy a guest blog post here with all the accoutrements. As in, they write and I post. That’s about it, really.

  1. Wow that was a great story about the poisoned rose, Charles. I loved the ending. Mine is the Jolly Doll. Sounds a bit rude to me but I’ll try to do something with it.
