OMG Please make it stop!

Dan-headshot-bw-2
your humble host

Ugh!

I signed up for a retweet service to help market The Navigators (actually, I signed up from a different service and got the retweet stuff for free) and they copy me ON EVERYTHING.

Even I’m ready to unfriend me.

Two weeks of this nonsense, constant retweeting of my original tweet. Which was cute. Once. Not retweeted 5000 times over two weeks!

Groan.

Marketing sucks.

(To read more about stuff you can do to market your book, click HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, or download my marketing book HERE)

That said, we did really well on our launch, subsequent promotion and countdown, and now the book is moving along getting some nice sales momentum. Woo!

Slow momentum, but it’s there.

$2.99 on Amazon right now, but easily worth twice that. FREE with Kindle Unlimited

See, if you do a big promotion or a countdown, you can get a really big splash. In fact, I’ve been able to get most of my books to number one by doing that and some other stuff (see the links above). But what I haven’t been able to do on a regular basis for every book is get them to sustain that momentum. Some, but not all. And while The Navigators is doing fine because it’s still basically a new book, it’s momentum is there – thank God – but now it’s time to step up my game.

I don’t want to wait three months for the next countdown and have splashes.

(Okay, that sounded weird.) What I mean is, I need to be doing constant stuff to get regular momentum. And I am. because even though marketing sucks, I’m pretty good at it.

But…

It’s always changing, so you gotta stay fresh. (Man, that sounds weird, too.) But many minds will have many ideas, so you and I need to reach out to our author pals and see what they’re doing that’s successful. Lots of little things add up!

That’s where YOU come in.

Tell me about the things you’ve done that of been successful so I can try them out! Of course I have a few I’m working on myself, and this being my first novel, I’m not sure they’re the best things because my other stuff was different.

But like anything else, you have to try lots of different things to see what works for each different book.

So give me your thoughts!

What things are selling books for you right now?

Ads, efforts, whatever, give me your ideas below!

You obviously know a lot more than I do about marketing, but all I can suggest is something you probably already do: pay for a direct marketing service like BookBub or one of the less expensive versions of it. It’s scary to spend that kind of money, but maybe it’s worth it? There are free sites as well, though their results are questionable.

I know one author who pays for these types of promotions every single month, and I can only imagine that she must alternate between books (since you can’t do the same one over and over again.) The more books you have, the easier it is to do that, but you already have quite a few.

Anyway, good luck with it! 🙂
