I’ve been thinking about this for a while. There are plenty of you who are excellent writers but don’t yet have a large following on your blogs or you have a nice following and it wouldn’t hurt her to cross market a bit.
Maybe you haven’t even started a blog and need a good launching point.
Here’s your chance.
I’m considering letting some of you become permanent guest bloggers.
Each week on this blog we would feature you and others for the months of June July and August. You could blog every Wednesday or every other Thursday or once a month; you could blog more often if you are popular, if you get a good following, if you are interesting… we might want you to do it a little more.
What are your thoughts?
If you’re interested, send me a message using the contact me button.
You would simply post your blog here first and then you could re-blog it on your own blog, so don’t worry about not being able to share what you’ve got with your existing base. I’m not looking to stop your popularity I’m looking to increase yours there and increase ours here.
I think this would be a great way to showcase some of the talent we been able to discover here. The door is open to everyone.
What do you think? Is this something we should try? Would you be interested? Would you like to be a guest blogger over the summer and possibly on a permanent basis going forward? Let me know!

It sounds like a fun idea, but the commitment may be difficult for some. haha

I just want to expose good talent to wider audiences. They can blog as often or as little as they would like.

That’s a very generous offer and a rather potentially mutually advantageous one. Would you have guardrails for your permanent guests on topics or themes or would they have relatively free reign? I’d hate for your blog to lose your personality’s spark.

Oh, I would still post on like Sundays and Mondays but this would give a chance for other people to be seen and heard. And no, probably no guard rails, I don’t thinkβ¦

Sounds like it could be great fun.

That sounds good. I’m not at all sure how that all works. Would the guest person write the witty stuff like you do and ask for comments? If so I think a lot of people who comment regularly would be qualified like Lucy ( she always says funny stuff) or Allison who always says thoughtful stuff or Jenny who has a really pretty photograph, and says things that I never thought of before. Insightful is the word I was looking for. Anyway, I’ll be looking forward to it. Sounds exciting.

A guest post is always whatever the guest feels is appropriate.
And Jenny will be happy to hear you like her pic. I agree, by the way. That’s why I say the men on her island are always hitting on her. Because they are.

The men on my island do not always hit on me, Dan. BUT, I am incredibly insightful. This idea about guest bloggers is good. Personally, I really enjoy your guest posts. Sometimes getting noticed as a new blogger is tough. Many people don’t know what they’re getting into or how to market their blog effectively. Your site could be a great platform to get noticed.
A few guest blogs by different authors is a cool idea. Well played.

I agree. I spent a year with NO readers. I’d have loved the chance to guest blog on a site that had readers. That’s when it dawned on me – why not help them and give ’em a boost?

Nice idea, Dan. No guard rails? But you don’t want your blog heading off into the ditch. Something humorous, right?

I figure, if they read the blog they know what to do. We’ve been fine with guest bloggers so far.

Personally, I’d welcome the opportunity to be a guest blogger. Not being very good at marketing myself, this could be very good for me. Not sure how good it wold be for you. LOL
Please give some guidelines about what kind of blogs you would expect. Are you going to choose who will be the guest blogger on any given day? And thank you, Dan, for opening up to some of us fairly new to blogging.

Read some of the guest blogs we’ve already had, and some f the posts in general. Anything you want to offer will have a place. Some folks write a helpful tip or explain an aspect of writing (everything from writing an effective plot twist to writing software to the benefits of a critique group).
people here want to learn, to read good short stories, to be amused, to follow the writer journey… it’s an eclectic group with a wide-ranging interest.
As far as the day, you’d write it in advance and I’d post it on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.
It’ll be great for me because it’ll help me introduce some of you to a little bit bigger group of readers. That’s cool by any measure. Odds are you won’t suck.

I’ll try not to, Dan. I’m a Christian Romance/Suspense author, member of the ACFW, working on my forth novel at the moment. The previous published books were written before I had any classes in writing. I’ve learned so much since then. I’d like to continue learning. Perhaps I do have something to offer others just starting out on their own writing journey.
Where do we send our blog, once written?

One topic might be telling folks what you learned between book 1 and book 4. But I’m sure you’ll come up with something good.

I think that’s a fabulous idea — I discover so many new blogs I follow through your blog. And it’s so generous of you to offer to give a hand up to those of us who are just starting out. I’m not sure I’m good enough at this blog post thing yet to volunteer, but I’d like to think it’s an option for the (near) future.
My only concern would be the ratio of your posts versus guest posts. I mostly come here to see you, after all, and as others have said, I’d hate to lose the vibe you have set up so well here.

Funny you should say that. My most viewed post in 2015 was a guest post.
I think readers will still see plenty of me. I’ll still be posting on Sundays and Mondays, with one guest on Tuesday and another guest on Wednesday, one of my trademark writing based questions for Thursday (I’ve written and scheduled those through July!) then maybe a flash fiction challenge on Friday in addition to the writing contest in June/July, and the video show runs on Saturday. Meanwhile, we’ll be working on blurbs and promoting some of my books that’ll be released this summer and fall.
Damn, that sounds like a lot of work all of a sudden.
Also, guest blogs tend to want to keep the flavor of the blog, and with few exceptions they do. But you guys can always send me a message and say I need to take the reins back. I listen. I won’t be leaving, I’ll just be showcasing other people two days a week more or less.
But I’m also flattered that you like hearing from me so much and don’t want that to change. You guys are the best.

Wow, that does sound like a lot of work! But I know you’re up for it – you’re a blogging champ!
And don’t get me wrong, I love the guest posts too. Variety is the spice of life, after all, and the flavor of the blog will still come through when we have a delicious buffet of… of… okay, I’m losing my grip on the metaphor, but you get the idea. π

Hey, it’s like Dan’s Guest House. Summer vacay, let’s see who’s in the cottage this week. I mean, some guests should stay all summer and some we are less sad to see leave…but they all add flavor.

Right! Exactly.
When will you be stopping by???

Well, I don’t have a lot of vacation time… π Lemme think about if I have anything not-so-random that would make sense in a guest post.
